Gor Mahia's Austin Odhiambo prepares for an emotionally charged Mashemeji derby against his former team, AFC Leopards, at Nyayo Stadium.

Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo is set to face his former team, AFC Leopards, in a highly anticipated Mashemeji derby at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Odhiambo, who began his football career with AFC Leopards, expressed mixed feelings about competing against his old squad but affirmed his commitment to securing a win for Gor Mahia.

In an interview, Odhiambo shared his sentiments about the upcoming match.

"I am not feeling so good about facing my former team because AFC Leopards is where I started playing football and grew into what I am today," he said.

Despite the emotional challenge Odhiambo remains focused on his professional responsibilities.

"What I can say is that I will just be there to win for my team, and if I get a chance, I will score, as it is part of my job," he added confidently.

The midfielder also highlighted the importance of form heading into the derby, noting that both teams are coming off recent victories.

"Form is very important going into the match. Considering that we won our last outing and they also won, I predict a very tough encounter," he noted.

The mood within Gor Mahia's camp is reportedly positive with the team looking forward to the challenge.

"The mood in camp has been fine and everyone is in a good mood going into the match. Everyone is looking to play under pressure from fans and get the bragging rights. We expect an exciting match, and Gor Mahia should come in large numbers," Odhiambo concluded.

The historical rivalry between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, which dates back to May 5, 1968, adds an extra layer of excitement to the derby.

Gor Mahia, boasting a record 20 league titles, will not lack motivation as they face AFC Leopards, who have claimed 12 championships themselves.

The absence of key players such as Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno and Patrick Kaddu and Emery Bayisenge due to injuries could impact the dynamics of the match.
