The English-born-Ugandan left-back was handed a place in the starting 11 but was later withdrawn at the break with the Scottish side down 3-0.

Jordan Obita and his Hibernian’s dream of playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League was dimmed on Thursday night after succumbing to a 5-0 loss to Aston Villa at their home in Scotland.

The side had a fairytale run through the qualifying rounds, hinging on their good home record but were stunned by the class exhibited by the English Premier League side.

The English-born-Ugandan left-back was handed a place in the starting 11 but was later withdrawn at the break with the Scottish side down 3-0.

Ollie Watkins headed Aston Villa ahead in the 18th minute before sealing his brace in the 34th.

Leon Bailey tripled the lead for the visitors just before the break as Obita paved the way for Jimmy Jeggo.

Watkins and Douglas Villa added two in the second half to seal the victory ahead of the second leg next Thursday at the Villa Park.

The aggregate winner will advance to the group stages of the Conference league.
