The Rwandan international has revealed his determination to make a statement for himself at AFC Leopards after scoring a hat-trick against PAC University.

AFC Leopards striker Arthur Gitego has expressed delight at completing a hat-trick for the club as they knocked out PAC University to qualify for the round of 16 of the FKF Cup on Sunday.

Gitego scored three goals in his fourth competitive appearance for the club and was warmly received by the supporters who have been keen to see what he can bring to the party.

Speaking after the match, Gitego revealed that the desire to prove his worth to the team after joining from Rwanda last month was a big motivating factor behind him wanting to do well.

“First of all. I have to thank God because this is an effort from God,” Gitego said.

Anticipating the challenge, Gitego highlighted the significance of the match in showcasing his capabilities at a high level.

“It is a very big opportunity for my career to score a hat-trick. It was not my first appearance but I am very happy to score my first three goals and I think it is the beginning.”

“I expected it before because it was my game to prove that I can play at a high level because I came from my country. I am a foreigner here. I have to fight, I have to push more, I have to make my body fitter and fight hard to win.”

Acknowledging the stature of AFC Leopards as a formidable club, he added, “This is a big club and we have to win every game and I appreciate the support. I am very happy.”

Gitego's enthusiasm and commitment to contributing to the team's success were evident, marking a promising start to his journey with AFC Leopards.

Gitego made his senior debut for Rwanda in November 2023, and he was in the Amavubi squad that drew goalless with Zimbabwe in Huye in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He previously also played for Heroes FC, Kiyovu Sports and Gicumbi FC.

The move to AFC Leopards had been rumored to hit a snag earlier as Macedonian football heavyweights FC Shkupi were reportedly closing in on a deal that could snatch him away from AFC Leopards.

Gitego's ability to consistently deliver top-notch performances has not only made him a standout figure at the club level but also on the national stage, cementing his status as one of the most promising talents in Rwandan football.
