AFC Leopards coach Tomas Trucha wants Ingwe fans to give new striker Arthur Gitego time as he is still getting used to the 'more physical' Kenyan league

AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha has assessed Arthur Gitego after the Rwandese international made his competitive start for Ingwe against Murang’a Seal last Sunday.

Gitego made his second appearance for the club but was subbed off shortly after the hour mark as Trucha sought to inject some pace into his team in efforts to add a second goal.

The former Marine FC player has yet to find the target competitively, but has scored two goals unofficially when Leopards played Nairobi City three weeks ago.

Now, Trucha has revealed what he thought about his performance.

“Good things, bad things,” Trucha said.

“Still not ready 100 per cent, still not sharp, so we need to work on fitness. Obviously it is a new league for him.

“As I said last time, Kenyan league is more physical than Rwanda. Nothing against Rwanda, but I believe so.

“He needs to learn. He is young, so we need to prepare him and I believe game by game, he will become better and better.”

Following his debut against Kariobangi Sharks a week earlier, Trucha had already called for patience with the 22-year-old.

“I saw some of his games when he played for the national team and when he played for Marine FC,” Trucha said.

“From December, he did not have proper training, he did not have enough game time, so you see against Kariobangi Sharks (he was trying to adjust ) to the intensity.”

Trucha highlighted Gitego's youth, expressing confidence that with the right training and support, the talented forward will continue to improve.

“I believe the intensity of the Kenyan league is different, maybe more intensive than Rwanda league. He needs some time. He is young.

Gitego had been the center of attention in the transfer market, having received offers from foreign clubs including CA Bizertin of Tunisia and Macedonia's FK Shkupi before joining Ingwe.

He made his Rwanda debut in November 2023 in the goalless draw against Zimbabwe in Huye during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
