The Arsenal manager is set to battle his predecessor and three other managers for the Premier League award.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta headlines a five-man nominees list for Premier League manager of the month of January.

Arteta was nominated alongside Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank. Brighton’s manager Roberto De Zerbi and Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper completed the lineup.

Arteta leading Arsenal's title charge

Arteta is the favourite to win the award, which is decided by fan votes. The Spanish tactician is leading Arsenal’s surprising charge for their first Premier League title in 19 years.

The Gunners currently lead the table with 50 points from 19 games, their highest-ever point haul in top-flight history.

Arteta’s men went unbeaten in January

Seven of Arsenal’s 50 points came in January, with Arteta leading the team to two wins and a draw, including a 3-2 win over Manchester United last week.

However, Arteta faces a challenge from Emery, who led Villa to three league wins and one draw in January.

Emery, De Zerbi, Frank and Cooper in contention

The Villans are now a resurgent team under the former Villarreal manager, who replaced Steven Gerrard last year.

Unai Emery

Meanwhile, De Zerbi has also done a decent job at Brighton since he replaced Graham Potter. The Italian tactician led Brighton to two wins and a draw this month.

Nottingham Forest’s Cooper also did a great job this month after leading the Tricky Trees away from the relegation zone with two wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, Frank also had the same number of wins as Arteta, leading Brentford to two wins and a draw in three matches.
