PREMIER LEAGUE Arsenal forward reveals how God has helped him during title push

Kolawole Babatunde 16:29 - 14.03.2023

Arsenal winger Saka has revealed the role of God in his life after scooping the Young Player of the Year award at the London Football Awards.

Fans have expressed fear for Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, citing a possible burnout for the England international after having played 40 games for club and country this season.

The 21-year-old has however expressed a willingness to play every game and has played down fears of burnout in the business end of the season.

When quizzed earlier in the season, Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, played down the fear, saying the world's top players have to be willing to play "70 matches, every three days," until the end of the season.

It’s in God’s hands

While speaking to Standard Sport at the London Football Awards, Saka expressed his willingness to play all the time as he placed himself in the hands of God.

"I'm just happy to be on the pitch," he said. "If I put it two ways: would I rather be injured or on the pitch, I want to be on the pitch. If I'd asked myself when I was younger where I would want to be [now], it was on the pitch, playing for Arsenal every week, competing at the highest level. So I take it; I'm happy,” he said.

"When I'm in training, I learn as much as I can, and in the games, I just play 100 percent. I leave the rest in God's hands. God's been taking care of me. Some tackles, I could have been lucky [to avoid injury], but I wouldn't call it luck. I believe in God, and he's taking care of me. I've just been staying fit, and hopefully I can continue doing my best for Arsenal so we can have some happiness at the end of the season," he added.

Saka back on the pitch

After last night’s win at the London Football Awards, the next focus for Saka is helping Arsenal advance in the Europa League.

The Gunners salvaged a 2-2 draw away at Sporting Lisbon last Thursday and will look to finish the job at the Emirates this Thursday.
