Modric injured his left leg during his side’s defeat to Girona last Tuesday and was initially expected to be sidelined for two weeks.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti hopes Luka Modric will be available for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna, having previously been ruled out for next week’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Manchester City.

The 37-year-old midfielder injured his left leg during his side’s defeat to Girona last Tuesday and was initially expected to be sidelined for two weeks.

Ancelotti gave a positive update on Modric’s condition on Monday, as well as on other members of his squad, ahead of Tuesday’s La Liga clash against fourth-placed Real Sociedad.

“We’ve got good news with Modric. It’s possible he’s ready for the game on Saturday,” Ancelotti said.

“(Eder) Militao is fine, he had a personal issue, he came back when training started, tomorrow he will start. (David) Alaba is not available, but like Modric, he can be available for Saturday’s game.

“With (Federico) Valverde, we have to evaluate, today he has done some work.”

Tuesday’s fixture against Real Sociedad will see Ancelotti’s side come up against former forward Takefusa Kubo.

The 21-year-old Japan international signed for Real in 2019 and had four loan spells away from the club before he departed permanently for Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022.

Kubo has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, and Ancelotti admitted the possibility of bringing the forward back to the Bernabeu was something the club was exploring.

“He’s been with us, he’s doing very well with Real Sociedad, we’re looking at it and it’s a subject we’ll talk about in the coming months,” the Italian added. “For players in his position, it is difficult.”
