As we continue our countdown to AFCON 2023, here is a list of all-time leading scorers in the tournament's history.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has produced some of the finest strikers in football history. 

Names like Roger Milla, Samuel Eto'o, and Rashidi Yekini spring to mind but where do they rank in the AFCON all-time scorers chart?

Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon) - 18 goals

Eto'o is one of Africa's greatest footballers, known for his prolific goal-scoring ability. He won the AFCON twice with Cameroon and was a key figure in their success.

Laurent Pokou (Ivory Coast) - 14 goals

Pokou was a legendary Ivorian striker who had a remarkable scoring record in the AFCON. He achieved this tally in just two tournaments, leaving a lasting impact on Ivorian football, and the continent as a whole.

Rashidi Yekini (Nigeria) - 13 goals

Yekini is regarded as one of Nigeria's greatest footballers. His powerful and clinical finishing helped Nigeria win the AFCON in 1994, and he remains a revered figure in Nigerian football.

Hassan El-Shazly  (Egypt) - 12 goals

Hassan El-Shazly scored six goals in the 1963 AFCON – the pinnacle of his international exploits. Despite his remarkable goalscoring record, he never won the competition with Egypt.

Hossam Hassan (Egypt) - 12 goals

Hassan is Egypt's all-time leading goal scorer and was a key player in their AFCON triumphs in 1986 and 1998. He had a long and successful career, both domestically and internationally.

Patrick Mboma (Cameroon) - 11 goals

Patrick Mbomba emerged as a standout figure, achieving joint top scorer status in both the 2002 and 2004 Cup of Nations.

Mbomba secured AFCON victories with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002, solidifying his status as one of the most accomplished winners in the tournament's history.

Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast) - 11 goals

Drogba is one of the most iconic African footballers. He led Ivory Coast to their first AFCON final in 2006, falling just short in the end. Despite failing to win the tournament, the ex-Chelsea man played a pivotal role in their subsequent successes.

Ndaye Mulamba (DR Congo) - 10 goals

Mulamba was a prominent Congolese striker in the 1970s. He had a memorable tournament in 1974, where he scored nine goals, setting a record for most goals in a single AFCON edition.

Kalusha Bwalya  (Zambia) - 10 goals

Zambian football great Kalusha Bwalya holds a prestigious spot among AFCON's all-time top scorers, hitting 10 goals with stars like Ndaye Mulamba, Joel Tiéhi, Mengistu Worku, and Dos Santos. 

Bwalya played a crucial role as the Chipolopolo secured a runners-up finish in the 1994 AFCON, a tournament ultimately won by Nigeria.

Joel Tiéhi - (Ivory Coast) - 10 goals

Tiehi is one of Ivory Coast's greatest-ever players. He left an indelible mark on AFCON history with a total of 10 goals.

 Making his debut in 1992, Tiéhi truly shone in the 1994 and 1998 editions, scoring four goals in both competitions, eventually leading the Elephants to a notable third-place finish in the 1998 competition AFCON.
