Pulse Sports brings you everything you need to know as CAF conducts the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with Kenya hoping for a favourable pairing.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.

Kenya are among the 52 nations that will take part in the qualifiers that will start from the preliminary round, although it is 48 teams that will eventually square it off at the group stage qualifiers, to determine the 24 sides that will play next year’s tournament in Morocco.

Harambee Stars are exempted from the preliminary round due to their FIFA ranking (ranked 111 globally and 26 in Africa) and will go straight into the group stage qualifiers of which their opponents will be known on Tuesday.

When will the qualifiers begin?

The 2025 AFCON qualifiers will start at the preliminary round where the eight lowest ranked teams will face off in the next international window between March 18 and 26 after which the four winners seal their place in the group stage of the qualifiers set to kick off in September.

Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini are the eight teams who will have to qualify from the preliminary round.

How many teams will be in the draw?

There will be a total of 52 nations in the draw with 44 already through to the group stage qualifiers while eight others will face off to determine the other four who will make up a total of 48 before the qualifiers proper begin.

Time & where to watch the draw

The draw will take place at 3pm Kenyan time in Cairo, Egypt and will be available on the CAF YouTube channel.

When will the group stage qualifiers take place?

The group stage qualifiers are scheduled to take place in September with matchday one and two primed between September 2 and 10, 2024 with the third and fourth round slated for October 7-15 before the final round is held from November 11-19 this year.

What else?

The dates for the 2025 AFCON tournament have not been confirmed although reports in Morocco on Monday suggested FIFA and CAF have settled on July 22-August 21, 2025.
