Oshoala created a record in 2022 by becoming the first African woman to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or award.

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala was missing as FIFA announced its nominated women players for 2022 The Best Football Awards.

Oshoala created a record in 2022 by becoming the first African woman to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or award, finishing 16th in the overall ranking with teammate Alexia Putellas winning it for a second consecutive time.

The Barcelona forward also in 2022, became the first African player - male or female - to win the continent's footballer of the year award five times in their career.
