Ngannou nearly pulled off the greatest upset in boxing history when he dropped Tyson Fury in his professional boxing debut, which was the most startling moment of 2023. However, Ngannou ultimately lost a split decision to "The Gypsy King."

Despite having a 0-1 record, Ngannou was able to secure a super fight against Anthony Joshua, a British heavyweight phenom, in less than two weeks, because of his impressive performance against Fury.

During his sixteen-year career, Fury had been dropped four times by Deontay Wilder and once each by Neven Paikich, Steve Cunningham, and Ngannou.
