The Los Angeles Lakers needed a huge game from Anthony Davis to beat the Golden State Warriors.
In the Western Conference Semifinals, the Los Angeles Lakers take the lead and hold on at Chase Center to win in a thrilling 117-112 contest.
Both clubs have had a difficult playoff journey thus far, with the Warriors defeating the Sacramento Kings in the Round 1 series 4-3 while the Lakers were not guaranteed a playoff spot until they had won the 2023 NBA Play-in competition.
In The first game of the Western Conference semifinals, the Warriors won the first quarter against the Lakers 31-29 as the rest of the game was evenly balanced in the remaining three periods.
In the second quarter, the Showtime Lakers decisively defeated the Warriors 36-33.
At halftime, Los Angeles had a 66-65 advantage in the box score, and they continued to apply pressure into the third quarter as well.
Anthony Davis produces Monster performance
With 30 points, 23 rebounds, and five assists, Anthony Davis was unstoppable from start to finish, becoming only the fourth player in franchise history to do it in the postseason.
Of the 10 shots the Lakers took in the game, Davis had a game-high four blocks, which led the team.
LeBron James led the Lakers with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. D'Angelo Russell scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half, Dennis Schroder added 19 points off the bench, and Austin Reaves added 10.
Six minutes into the fourth quarter, Golden State was down by 14 points. Then, they went on a 14-0 run to tie the game, but Los Angeles held on to gain the home-court advantage.
With 27 points, Stephen Curry led the Warriors. Jordan Poole added 21, and Klay Thompson added 25. Along with his 10 points and five assists, Kevon Looney continued to rule the glass with 23 rebounds.
In the game, the Lakers made 25 of 29 free throws while the Warriors only hit 5 of 6.
The Warriors attempted 53 long-range shots and made 21 of them, but the Lakers managed to hold them off.
The Warriors now will aim to bounce back when they host the Lakers in Game 2 scheduled for Friday, May 5, 2023.
