Trayvon Bromell flew down the track to clock the fastest time in the world this year at the Rome Diamond League.

In his first race on European soil since 2022, former world indoor champion Trayvon Bromell returned in style clocking a brilliant world lead to easily win the men's 100m event at the Rome Diamond League on Friday evening.

Competing against a stacked field that includes two of the world's fastest men in history, the American track icon held his own with a perfect race from the blast of the gun and had time to ease off 10m before the finish line, winning in a massive Season's Best (SB) time of 9.84s (1.1) - his fastest time and first Diamond League win since 2022.

Cameroonian star Emmanuel Eseme continued with his impressive start season to finish second in 9.99s, edging Africa's fastest man in history Ferdinand Omanyala in 10.01s. Brandon Hicklin was fourth in 10.04s, while former world champion Fred Kerley surprisingly finished fifth in 10.06s.

Bromell first gave a snippet on his current form this season when he powered to 9.91s to win the same event in his season debut at the Pure Athletics Global Invite in Clermont. His impressive time sent a vital comeback statement to the men's sprint division that he may be back at his best.

Having had years of plagued injuries that hampered his progress, the 29-year-old's performances in Clermont and Rome indicate he's back at his best and in shape to challenge for a spot on the US team to the World Championships in Tokyo.
