Jamaica's young speedster Alana Reid has revealed the benefits of training with and getting mentored by world-renowned sprinters Sha'Carri Richardson and Tee Tee Terry.

Jamaica's future sprints star Alana Reid made the headlines after it was confirmed that she'll start training with the world's fastest woman, Sha'Carri Richardson in the US.

This shocking announcement in October 2023 was a bold step by Reid towards achieving her dreams by training under the guidance of Dennis Mitchell (Richardson's coach) at the Florida-based Star Athletics Track Club, thus bidding farewell to the familiar grounds of her high school Coach, Corey Bennett.

While this came with mixed reactions from Jamaican athletics fans, the reigning World Under-20 200m bronze medallist feels it was the best decision for her as she's now in the company of world-class sprinters.

"It [training] has been going well so far, and I have to thank God for that, knowing that I have been adjusting to a new program, a new coach, and a new environment," said Reid in an interview with Jamaica Observer.

"My new environment has been good so far, and it has been a good experience to meet people from different places. But besides that, I am here to get the job done, and that is my main focus, to do what I need to do and just continue chasing my dreams," she added.

The Jamaican U20 record holder with a Personal Best of 10.92s, went further to reveal the connection and her relationship with training partners Richardson and Tee Tee Terry, who are more like her mentors.

"It has been a great experience training here because I have known Tee Tee Terry before I came here, so having her around to guide me helps me a lot.

"As for where Sha'Carri is concerned, it is a good feeling being around her. She teaches me a lot and she shows me a lot of stuff.

"There are times when I will make a few errors, and she will put me aside and say whatever. But it's not for me to come here and focus on anybody; it is to focus on myself and prepare myself to be better than who I am."

Reid has her 2024 goals set on making the Jamaican Olympic team and performing her best at the World U20 Championships.

"My main focus is for me to chase my dreams and stay and try to make the Olympic team this year. I have the World Under-20 Championships coming up, and my focus is also on that," she said.
