Arne Slot's Liverpool has started the new Premier League season with high expectations. The English champions dominated last season and have a clear goal again this year: the title.

Although they've had a perfect start with two consecutive wins, their sparkling form has yet to fully materialise.

Challenge for Arne Slot

Liverpool narrowly defeated both Bournemouth (4-2) and Newcastle United (3-2). "I feel like they haven't quite gelled yet," Westerveld explains in an interview with Sportnieuws.nl.

"But when you see the quality they have and the players they've bought... once that starts clicking, they have so much power."

The summer transfer window has consequences for Arne Slot, who now has a deep, outstanding squad to work with. "Last year, it was a miracle they became champions with a new manager who wasn't even known in England.

"But now they have the squad to seize the title," says Westerveld. He doesn't believe Slot will buckle under the pressure. "He's not bothered by that at all."

However, according to Westerveld, the biggest challenge lies in managing the squad. "The only problem is that he has a very deep squad. With all due respect to AZ and Feyenoord, they had eleven good players there.

"Now Arne faces the challenge of managing the team and keeping everyone happy, something he has never experienced in his career. Liverpool has more than eleven top players."

"If you bench Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, or Gravenberch for two weeks at some point, they will definitely come to you. Now you really have to manage the team. You can say: they have a lot of matches.

"But yes, if things go a bit wrong and you're knocked out of everything early, then you're only left with the Premier League and the Champions League... That is the biggest challenge for Arne," Westerveld concludes.
