‘What kind of life Is this?’ — Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen admits to questioning God

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen recounts the toughest period of his life that inspired his football career

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has opened up about the painful childhood struggles that shaped his journey to stardom.

The Galatasaray forward revealed that during his darkest moments, he once cried out to God in despair.

Osimhen remembers humble beginnings

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen reflected on his humble beginnings and the loss of his mother at just three years old.

“No one was supposed to know my name. Even you reading this is proof of God’s grace,” he said. “My mother died when I was still a baby… The only thing I still have in my mind about her is her holding me in her arms.”

Life quickly became harsh. After his mother’s death, his father lost his job as a driver and began working as a dishwasher at a police station, struggling to provide for the family.

Osimhen recalled a heartbreaking moment at age 12 when their landlord cut off electricity. “One room, seven people, no TV, no light, nothing. Just darkness. I remember going outside, sitting next to a swamp — a real swamp — and I started crying. I asked God, ‘What kind of life is this?’”

Osimhen recounts sleeping in church, having roof taken away

The hardship did not end there. “I was giving everything I earned to my siblings for food and rent. Most nights I slept at the church,” he revealed. Their home was barely standing, and when the landlord promised repairs, things only worsened.

“Then one day, he sent a few men to our home and they took the roof away… and never brought it back! It’s been 13 years!” he said, adding jokingly, “I pray for everyone… Landlords, though… somehow I always forget them in my prayers.”

Today, Osimhen is thriving in Turkey, providing assists in back-to-back matches for Galatasaray, as he looks to build his legacy further with the Cimbom.
