The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 through regulation time, with Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerging as the hero.

Nwabali made decisive saves to deny Premier League stars Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush from the spot, before Ademola Lookman scored the winning penalty.

Gomaa slams fans

The retired Egyptian international expressed his dismay at the hostile atmosphere, which saw the Pharaohs subjected to booing by spectators at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Gomaa voiced his frustration with the crowd's conduct, which he felt was heavily biased against his home nation.

"You said the match was taking place at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca? I have the impression it's being played in Lagos, Nigeria," he remarked.

The Al Ahly and Egypt icon described the scene as deeply concerning, highlighting the disrespect shown during moments typically honoured in international football.

"Given what's happening in the stands, with the booing during the Egyptian national anthem and every time the ball is touched, we've honestly reached a difficult stage," Gomaa added.

With their victory, the Super Eagles maintained a perfect record in AFCON third-place matches, having now won all eight they have contested—a feat unmatched by any other country in the tournament's history.
