'We've got a plan' - Cole Palmer says Chelsea is not afraid of PSG
Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has expressed unwavering confidence in his team's ability to triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday, despite acknowledging the formidable challenge posed by the French champions.
PSG has been in dominant form throughout the revamped tournament, steamrolling opponents like Inter Miami (4-0), Bayern Munich (2-0), and Real Madrid (4-0) en route to the final, boasting an aggregate score of 10-0 across their knockout stage matches.
Their semi-final demolition of Real Madrid particularly showcased their prowess, with Fabian Ruiz scoring twice, and Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos adding goals in a commanding 4-0 victory.
Chelsea's path to final has been less dominant but equally effective, with victories over Benfica (4-1 AET), Palmeiras (2-1), and Fluminense (2-0).
Their semi-final win against Fluminense saw new signing Joao Pedro net a decisive brace, signaling Chelsea's attacking potential.
What Palmer said
Speaking with DAZN ahead of the highly anticipated final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Palmer revealed he attended PSG's impressive 4-0 semi-final win against Real Madrid.
He openly conceded that the Ligue 1 champions are "probably the best team in the world."
However, Palmer quickly emphasised the belief within the Chelsea camp.
"Obviously, we're confident. We know it's going to be a tough game, but it's a final. We're excited. Everyone's ready. You know, you want to play against the best team, and they probably are the best team in the world, but we're excited and we're ready,” he added.
Despite PSG's formidable form and attacking firepower, Palmer insist that Chelsea have devised a strategy to counter their opponents.
"They do everything well, we've watched the games, but we've got a plan and we're going to try and do it," he stated.
The final is set for an 8 pm kick-off on Sunday July 13th.
