We are not thinking about Arsenal — Man City boss Guardiola 100% focused on Newcastle

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed suggestions that he is focused on Arsenal’s recent slip in the Premier League title race.

After the Gunners' dramatic 2-2 draw at Wolves, where a stoppage-time equalizer from 19-year-old Tom Edozie stunned the league leaders, City have been handed fresh hope in their quest to reclaim the top spot.

As it stands, Guardiola’s men sit only five points behind Arsenal with a game in hand. Because the two sides are still due to face each other, City effectively control their own destiny. If they win their remaining 12 games, they will be crowned champions for what would be a record-extending achievement under the Spaniard.

However, speaking to reporters today ahead of their home fixture against Newcastle United, Guardiola insisted his internal focus hasn't shifted an inch.

“I didn’t talk about the table, or our position or something like that. I could not care less,” Guardiola said.

“I didn’t talk about that for one second. Just Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle.”

This relentless focus is a trademark of the manager who has already secured six Premier League titles during his decade-long tenure at the Etihad.

With a significant portion of the season still to play, he was quick to downplay the significance of a single midweek result.

“If you ask me this question with two or three games left, I will have your answer. It’s 12 games left, it’s an eternity,” he added.

By emphasising the "eternity" left in the season, Guardiola is likely trying to shield his players from the pressure of the chase.

While the momentum has swung toward Manchester, the City boss remains wary of the bogey team potential of Eddie Howe's Newcastle, especially as the title race enters its most volatile stretch.
