The men's long jump event at the Meeting Citta'Di Savona witnessed the coming to the limelight of 18-year-old Mattia Furlani, who soared to a massive distance of 8.44m (2.2m/s) to win the event.

Though the wind reading was slightly above the legal limit of 2.0m/s, Furlani's mark is the biggest jump by an U20 athlete in all conditions.

It is also the best mark in the world this season in all conditions, which speaks volumes of his massive talent. South Africa's Ruswahl Samaai settled for second with a distance of 7.96m.

Furlani's career summary

In 2022, Furlani won two gold medals in the long and high jump at the European U18 Championships. His long jump winning distance of 8.04m is a massive Personal Best (PB) and Championship Record (CR).

Furlani is a double European U20 Champion

The young Italian equalled this mark in the qualifying rounds of the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, and at age 18 in March this year, he made his senior debut for the Italian team at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul.

Furlani set the European indoor U20 long jump record of 7.99m earlier this year in January in Stockholm.
