Super Falcons: South Korea's Casey Phair breaks star Ifeanyi Chiejine’s 24-year-old record
South Korea’s Casey Phair made history in the early hours of Tuesday morning after breaking Ifeanyi Chiejine’s 24-year-old record at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Phair etched her name into the record books of the Women’s World Cup after coming on as a substitute in South Korea’s clash against Colombia.

The multi-racial teenager became the youngest player to make her debut at the Women’s World Cup at the age of 16 years and 26 days, breaking Chiejine’s record in the process.
Chiejine had held the record for 24 years after making her debut for Nigeria at the 1999 edition, aged 16 years 34 days.
However, her record is now gone after Phair came on for her debut. Phair was born in South Korea to an American father and a South Korean mother, becoming the first multiracial player to play for the South Korea Women’s team.
Phair's unlucky debut
Unfortunately for Phair, it was a debut to forget as South Korea were on the receiving end of a 2-0 loss to Colombia in their opener.
Goals from Catalina Usme and Linda Caicedo in the first half gave Colombia a comfortable victory over the Asian side.
Korea will now have to regroup ahead of their second match against Morocco, who lost 6-0 to Germany in their first game.
Phair will be hoping to make an impact in that match, with Korea needing a win to keep their hopes of progressing to the round of 16.
