Super Eagles apologise for Benin disgrace, promise to ‘do the impossible’ and reach 2026 World Cup
The Super Eagles have released a statement of apology to Nigerians over their disappointing 2-1 loss to the Benin Republic in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Super Eagles lose ground in World Cup qualifier
Nigeria recorded their first loss of the 2026 World Cup qualifying series away to the Benin Republic as goals from Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie condemned the Super Eagles to defeat in Abidjan, leaving their chances of making the tournament finals hanging by a thread.
With only three points from four games, Nigeria are now four points behind the pace of table toppers Benin Republic, but the Super Eagles have now promised fans that they will do all they can to ensure they overcome the odds to book a place in the 2026 World Cup.
Super Eagles promise to qualify for World Cup
In a post on their X page, the Super Eagles posted a message for their fans, saying, “We are back in the country and we are not happy about the way the two games panned out.

To make good on their promise to qualify for the World Cup, the Super Eagles will have to go on an incredible run of wins, while hoping for results to elsewhere to go their way.
