The Belgian icon admitted that, despite his unforgettable years in London, his lifelong dream of playing for Los Blancos ultimately shapes his verdict.

‘Real Madrid is better’ — Hazard makes his choice clear

When asked directly if Chelsea was the best club he ever played for, Hazard did not hesitate.

“No, Real Madrid is better. My time at Chelsea was unbelievable but Madrid, the club, is the best. Number one.”

The former Blues talisman went on to explain that the decision was deeply rooted in childhood ambition rather than how his spell at both clubs went.

“My dream was to play for Madrid when I was younger. When I started playing football, I always said ‘Oh my God, I want one day to play for Madrid.’ Hala Madrid.”

Hazard’s comments show once again the emotional pull Real Madrid holds for many elite players, even those who reached legendary status elsewhere.

While his spell in Spain never lived up to expectations on the pitch, the prestige and symbolism of wearing the famous white shirt clearly left a lasting impression on him.

Chelsea brilliance vs Real Madrid suffering

Hazard’s Chelsea career remains the defining chapter of his footballing legacy. Across 352 appearances, he delivered 110 goals and 88 assists in seven seasons, driving the club to two Premier League titles, two Europa Leagues, an FA Cup and an EFL Cup.

Individually, he dominated English football, winning PFA Player of the Year, FWA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season (2014/15), four Chelsea Player of the Year awards and four Premier League Team of the Season inclusions.

By contrast, his time at Real Madrid was far less influential. Hazard managed just 78 appearances, seven goals and 12 assists over four seasons, playing only 10 matches in his final campaign.

Injuries, loss of form, weight issues and limited trust from Carlo Ancelotti restricted his impact, even as Madrid won two LaLiga titles, the Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

In short, Chelsea got the best version of Hazard, but Real Madrid fulfilled the dream he had chased since childhood.
