The opening ceremony is a spectacular showcase of French culture and history and promises to be a highlight of the Games. Taking place along the River Seine, the event will feature a three-hour extravaganza before the iconic Olympic flame is lit.

While the official opening ceremony commences today, several sports, including football, rugby sevens, handball, and archery, have already begun their competitions.

Nigeria's Super Falcons begins with a defeat
Nigeria's women's football team, the Super Falcons, kicked off their campaign on Thursday, facing Brazil in their Group C opener.
The match was decided in the first half when Gabriela Nunes Da Silva scored with a powerful strike.
During the closely contested game, the Super Falcons were competitive against a strong Brazilian team, offering some encouragement as they pursue Olympic success.
The Super Falcons will face world champions Spain, who won 2-1 against Japan in Group C’s opener, in Nantes on Sunday evening.

Team Nigeria would be banking on World record holder, Tobi Amusan; her exceptional form makes her a strong contender for gold and a potential successor to Chioma Ajunwa as Nigeria's Olympic gold medalist.
Ese Brume in the long jump, in wrestling Blessing Oborududu; and Odunayo Adekuoroye and Quadri Aruna in Table Tennis are also medal potential.
