The development was confirmed by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), in Abuja on Thursday.

What Dikko said

According to Dikko, all financial entitlements for the players, coaching staff, and team officials, up to and including the July 26 final, have been disbursed for immediate payment.

“This is policy in motion. It reflects a renewed and deliberate commitment to Nigerian athletes under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Dikko said via Punch.

The gesture is seen as a morale booster for the Falcons, who are on the course for a 10th continental title, Mission X and are yet to lose a match in this year's tournament.

But the president’s support doesn’t end with the Super Falcons, Dikko also revealed that Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, will also benefit from increased allowances and match bonuses.

“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity. Future generations will come to appreciate President Tinubu’s sports reforms,” Dikko added.

The WAFCON final between Nigeria and Morocco is scheduled for Saturday, July 26th with kickoff at 9 PM Nigerian time.
