More is Needed: Michael Johnson seeks help on making Grand Slam Track better after 'mixed' debut edition in Kingston

Grand Slam Track boss Michael Johnson has resolved to seek public opinion on how to improve his money-making meet better following the conclusion of the first leg in Kingston.

The Kingston Slam has generally received positive feedback from track fans and participating athletes for the initiative, especially the monetary rewards. However, some negative aspects include the low turnout of spectators at the stadium, poor media and broadcast coverage, and a level of excitement that has not met expectations.

Following the various online reactions, Johnson has deemed it fit to ask for public opinion on how things can be improved for the rest of the season.

"What can we do over the season to make @GrandSlamTrack better?," tweeted the four-time Olympic champion on his X page.

His honest question has garnered several responses, with a notable name in award-winning Dutch coach Laurent Meuwly, who trains famous 400mH/400m queen Femke Bol.

Another X user wrote: "The competition and the commentary was very solid! An area for improvement is there was a little too much dead time on the broadcast. It almost felt like the livestream froze at times. If there's anyway to tighten that up, that would be awesome.

"Love what you’re doing Pace of action is the biggest issue. Without field events, starts need to be much tighter. Too much dead air. 2+ hours 3 days in a row is a lot."

"Even as a super track fan, 2 days would be preferred. In stadium energy needs a boost. Pull out all stops to fill stands. Think about some visual effects—lights/pyro/other Some production quality issues. Focus on delivering the best shots—eye level with the lead runners. Drone footage was low quality. Audio mix was off at times, where horns crowded out the call," another user commented.

The Grand Slam Track in Kingston saw 12 champions crowned with each earning the massive sum of $100,000. The top stars with the best performances include: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the women's long sprint hurdles, Kenny Bednnarek in the men's short sprints, Alison Dos Santos in the men's long sprint hurdles, and Melissa Jefferson in the women's short sprints.

While Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser produced the highlight performance of the meet after her jaw-dropping run of 48.67s to win the women's 400m event.
