Manchester United starlet chooses between Ghana and England ahead of 2026 World Cup
Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven has made a definitive decision on his international future ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Despite strong interest from Ghana, the teenager has chosen to commit his future to England at senior level.
Rapid rise at Manchester United puts Heaven in spotlight
Heaven’s international decision comes amid a rapid rise at club level since joining Manchester United from Arsenal in February for £1 million. The 19-year-old wasted no time settling in, even making his United debut against his former club just weeks after his arrival.
Although developed primarily as a midfielder during his youth career in north London, Heaven has firmly established himself as a centre-back at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s system has suited him well, allowing the youngster to showcase his composure, ball progression and positional intelligence. He has made 14 senior appearances this calendar year, steadily growing in confidence.
While there were early setbacks, including United’s shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town, Heaven responded impressively.
His standout display came on Boxing Day against Newcastle, where he delivered the best performance of his young career. Playing at right centre-back despite being left-footed, he led the defensive line, made the most clearances on the pitch and was named Man of the Match.
Ghana advances rejected as Heaven backs England dream
Heaven has represented England at several youth levels and most recently featured for the Under-20s, but he is yet to make his senior debut.
That uncertainty prompted the Ghana Football Association to explore a potential switch, with the defender eligible through a grandparent.
The offer was tempting, especially with Ghana qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn alongside England.
However, the BBC reports that Heaven has rebuffed Ghana’s approach, choosing instead to pursue his ambition of representing England at senior level.
It is a confident call from a player clearly backing his long-term trajectory, both for club and country.
