‘It affects your state of mind’ - Ex-Super Eagles star Aiyegbeni advises Lookman after failed transfer
Lookman was the centre of a transfer saga this summer, with a potential move away to Inter Milan blocked by Atalanta.
The Nigerian forward was reportedly close to leaving the club, but a proposed transfer failed to go through. Atalanta were reluctant to sell their star player to a rival team and only wanted him to leave for a club outside Italy.
Following the club's reluctance, the Super Eagles star tendered a transfer request to facilitate his move.
Aiyegbeni's advice to Lookman
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Yakubu acknowledged that missing out on a major transfer can be a heavy burden for any player.
"I know situations like this can be very difficult for a player," Yakubu said. "When a move you were expecting doesn’t happen, it affects your state of mind. But I must commend Lookman for staying patient and Atalanta for welcoming him back in.
“For me, the most important thing is that he is back on the pitch, because that is where he can do what he does best, scoring goals and making an impact for his team."
Yakubu believes the resolution of the saga is a positive outcome for both the player and the club. "Atalanta need him, and he also needs Atalanta to keep pushing his career forward," the former Super Eagles striker added.
"It’s good to see they have found common ground, and I hope from here he can enjoy his football again, stay focused, and deliver the performances we all know he is capable of."
Lookman is expected to be a key figure in the club's pursuit of the title this season as he works to regain full fitness and form.
