‘I fell in love from day one’ - Super Eagles legend reveals his deep affection for Everton
The powerful forward, who scored 33 goals in 107 appearances for the Toffees over four seasons, remains a beloved figure among the fanbase.
He recently experienced their adoration firsthand during a recent visit to watch Everton’s game against Chelsea.
The Toffees went on to claim a 3-0 victory over Chelsea, where fans serenaded him with the classic chant, "Feed the Yak and he'll score."
Yakubu opens up on love for Everton
In an interview with the club's official website, Yakubu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. "The welcome from the fans meant so much to me," he said.
"I was with my daughter, and for her to see the fans and see that they still love me is something I will never forget. It’s so lovely to see the people remember the good things I did for the club."
Reflecting on his transfer from Middlesbrough, Yakubu described his immediate connection with Everton. "Signing for Everton was a great moment," he stated.
"I fell in love from day one. It’s a special club. We call it the ‘People’s Club’. The fans are so friendly. The way they welcomed me was so special."
The retired Super Eagles star, who also played for Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers, believes he played his best football on Merseyside.
"The club is always special to me. I think I played my best football here," he added. "Coming all the way from Boro, scoring goals and playing in Europe – it was a great atmosphere, and they’re great memories."
Yakubu holds a distinguished Premier League record as one of only five players to have scored a hat-trick for three different clubs. He joins an elite group that includes Nicolas Anelka, Kevin Campbell, Les Ferdinand, and Teddy Sheringham.
