‘He’s an interesting player’ - Ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper backs Nigerian youngster for success in Scotland
Aberdeen completed the signing of Nigerian defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu from German club Kaiserslautern, with the 26-year-old putting pen to paper on a deal that runs until summer 2028.
The Nigerian began his career at the Dosu Joseph Football Academy before playing for Akwa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
His European journey has seen him feature for IK Start in Norway and St. Pauli in Germany before his recent spell with Kaiserslautern.
Dosu backs Afeez for success
In an interview with Footy Africa, Dosu Joseph praised the 26-year-old as a high-quality player whose style is perfectly suited to the physical and tactical nature of Scottish football.
He highlighted Aremu's on-field awareness and strength as key reasons why he will adapt quickly to his new surroundings.
"Aremu is a talented footballer and very strong on the ball. He reads the game well and he’s a disciplined player as well," Dosu stated. "In addition, he’s creative and can bring stability to the midfield."
The former Super Eagles star believes Aremu's tactical acumen will be a significant advantage. "He is a player with good football intelligence, and I’m sure he’ll succeed in Scotland," he added.
According to Dosu, Aberdeen supporters can look forward to a versatile midfielder who can influence the game in all phases of play.
"He can also shoot from distance, which is a strong asset, and he is very good with long passes," Dosu explained. "He’s an interesting player who can influence matches from midfield."
