‘He will be knocking the door down to go’ - Ferdinand tells Amorim to integrate Mainoo into the team
Mainoo was reportedly close to a loan move during the summer transfer window after not starting any of United's initial league matches.
It is understood that he requested a temporary transfer to secure regular first-team football, but the club blocked the move, challenging him to earn his spot.
Despite remaining at the club, the midfielder has not been given adequate playing time by Amorim, with the team struggling with their performance.
Ferdinand warns Amorim
The former United defender believes the 20-year-old cannot be overlooked in the club's current setup and insisted his tolerance for limited playing time will run out.
Speaking while promoting the Talking Futures' Half Time Talks initiative, Ferdinand was unequivocal. "I do not want Kobbie Mainoo putting on any other shirt other than England's or Man United's, simple as," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"If he was agitating to get a loan now, if he is not playing in January, he will be agitating and knocking the door down even more to go and get game time."
"He has had a taste of a tournament with England and came out of it with absolutely flying colours, and he will want a taste of that again," the former defender added.
"If you are thinking long-term for Manchester United, I think Manchester United have to find a way of getting this kid into the team. He is a huge talent. Is there another way to get him on the team? What does he need to do? That is the big thing for me."
Amorim suffered another defeat at the hands of Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, losing 3-1 to the Bees.
