He made a poor decision - Rosenior criticises Caicedo after Chelsea held by Leeds
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has described the penalty conceded by Moises Caicedo as a “poor decision” following the Blues’ 2-2 draw against Leeds United on Tuesday night.
Chelsea looked set to continue their perfect Premier League run under Rosenior after taking control of the match through first-half goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer.
However, the momentum shifted early in the second half. Just six minutes after the restart, Caicedo brought down Jayden Bogle inside the penalty area, gifting Leeds a lifeline. Lukas Nmecha calmly converted from the spot to reduce the deficit.
Leeds capitalised on the swing in momentum shortly after, with Noah Okafor reacting quickest to slot home into an empty net and restore parity.
What Rosenior said
Speaking to reporters after the match, Rosenior expressed frustration over the moment that changed the game, while still backing his midfielder.
“Moi is a magnificent player, and he’s been excellent since I came in. But we made a poor decision there and gave away a penalty,” Rosenior said.
The Chelsea boss explained how the incident affected his team’s rhythm and confidence.
He added, “Once the penalty goes in, they start hitting long balls, picking up second balls. Then there’s the handball incident, and it clearly affected my players.”
Despite the dropped points, Rosenior acknowledged Caicedo’s overall contribution and remains confident in his squad as they look to regain momentum in their next league outing.
