'He deserved more respect' - Gyokeres' agent slams Sporting for transfer difficulty
The Swedish international completed his transfer to Arsenal last week for a fee worth €63.5 million plus €10 million in add-ons.
The striker was given the legendary number 14 shirt, previously worn by Thierry Henry, and has explained his reason for choosing the jersey.
Following his signing, Gyokeres has now trained with Arsenal and could make his debut against Tottenham in their preseason clash.
What Gyokeres agent said
Jonathan Chalkias, one of the agents managing the Swede's career, made several accusations and justified many of the player's actions during negotiations with Sporting Lisbon.
According to Abola, Chalkias said, "If Hugo Viana were still at Sporting, the deal would have been done in an hour," he admitted.
"Everything was agreed, but we didn't have time to start a legal battle. I don't understand how a player who scored so many goals and won three trophies didn't get more respect," Chalkias stated in an interview with WTV, revealing that the idea of the player skipping training came from… Sporting, who granted him "extra vacation."
"This industry is about trusting people. The sacrifices we made were probably the turning point in getting the deal done. They offered him to Real Madrid, made headlines with Real and even with United, but from day one, there was a commitment to Arsenal.
"Viktor always trusted Hasan Cetinkaya's plan: they agreed to go to a league with less exposure, like the Portuguese league, to win titles and get back to the Premier League," the agent concluded.
