The French international, who recently saw his four-year doping ban reduced to 18 months on appeal, signed for the Principality club earlier this summer.

Paul Pogba has penned a two-year deal with Monaco.

Having been sidelined for almost two years, the 32-year-old says he is focused on regaining full fitness before stepping back into competitive action.

What Pogba said

Pogba revealed that the decision to take a gradual approach was agreed upon with Monaco’s coaching staff, as he wants to return at the same high level he displayed during his prime years at Manchester United and Juventus.

“It’s about preparing properly. I don’t want to step on the pitch and not be myself. People want to see the best version of Paul Pogba, and that’s what I’m working towards,” he said.

The 2018 World Cup winner also admitted that the period away from football was mentally challenging, to the point where he contemplated retiring altogether.

However, the opportunity to start afresh with Monaco has reignited his passion for the game.

“I feel great, the staff are looking after me, and it’s just a matter of time before I’m at my peak again. Football is what I love the most, I feel like a kid getting another chance,” Pogba added.

Pogba could make his long-awaited return when Monaco kick off their Ligue 1 campaign at home to Le Havre on Saturday, August 16.
