Deadline day: Greenwood open to Serie A move as Lazio offer to sign Man United outcast
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood could be on his way to the Serie A after SS Lazio made enquiries about him.
Greenwood has been thrown into the murky waters of the transfer window after he was told he could leave United this summer.
The Red Devils made the decision to let the 21-year-old leave after a six-month internal investigation following rape accusations.
Greenwood’s ordeal
Mason has been out of action for over year after he was arrested and detained on suspicion of sexual and physical assault against his partner, Harriet Robson.
The forward was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling/coercive behaviour after clips and pictures were posted online by his girlfriend.
However, in February this year, the charges were dropped after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) claimed they had a duty to stop the case following the "withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light," per a Pulse Sports report.
United opened an internal investigation on the case and after six months released a statement that they would be parting ways amicably with the forward.
Lifeline for Greenwood
Following that decision, clubs have distanced themselves from the talented forward.
But according to a post by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Greenwood could be on his way to the Serie A on deadline day.
Italian side, Lazio, has asked about the possibility of taking the England international but will need the approval of their coach, Maurizio Sarri.
