Conte’s Napoli welcome Lookman’s new boss to the Serie A with a humiliating defeat
La Dea recently sacked Ivan Juric following a bad start to the season and replaced him with Raffaele Palladino.
However, it was not the start he would have wanted and suffered a heavy 3-1 loss to Napoli at the Diego Maradona stadium.
As it happened
Ademola Lookman made the starting lineup for Atalanta after a disappointing outing with the Super Eagles that saw them fail to qualify for the World Cup.
New manager Palladino, who replaced Juric, paired the Nigerian international with De Ketelaere in attack after having a conversation with the forward earlier this week.
Just 16 minutes into the game, the host took the lead after David Neres got on the end of a pass inside the box and fired into the bottom left corner.
Neres doubled the lead in the 38th minute before Noa Lang ended Atalanta’s hope of a comeback just before the halftime break.
In the second half, Gianluca Scamacca scored for Atalanta to reduce the deficit to two goals, giving them hope of a comeback.
However, they found it difficult to get past the Napoli defence despite dominating possession in the second half.
The win propels Napoli to the top of the table, with Inter Milan yet to play their game, while Palladino’s tenure started with a loss.
