Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been named the winner of Crystal Palace's Goal of the Month award for December.
However, despite the high expectations surrounding his arrival, Uche has struggled for consistent game time under manager Oliver Glasner, starting just three matches across all competitions this season.
Christantus Uche bags award for Crystal Palace
Glasner has frequently suggested that the versatile Nigerian is not currently a primary part of his tactical plans, even though Uche has looked sharp during his limited cameos.
His award-winning moment came during a rare start just before Christmas in a 3-2 defeat to KuPS in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Uche opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a sensational long-range strike that captured the imagination of the Selhurst Park faithful.
The midfielder's future at the club remains a significant topic of discussion. Uche's loan deal reportedly includes an "obligation to buy" clause, but it is contingent on him starting at least ten games this season, a target that looks increasingly out of reach.
The recent high-profile signing of Brennan Johnson has further heightened competition for places in the attacking and midfield rotations.
Despite the lack of starts, Uche remains a fan favorite. With Palace still competing in the Europa Conference League, there will be further opportunities for the Nigerian to impress.
If he continues to produce moments of individual brilliance, he may yet force his way into Glasner’s long-term plans.
