CAF Concludes Inspection of 5 Kenyan Venues as AFCON 2027 Preparations Intensify
Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed has confirmed that Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials have completed a two-day inspection of five Kenyan stadiums as preparations continue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, has recently faced speculation over a possible postponement. However, CAF president Patrice Motsepe reaffirmed that the competition remains on schedule.
With the clock ticking, the three host nations are now tasked with accelerating infrastructure developments, as CAF continues its routine inspection process to assess progress and provide guidance ahead of the continental showpiece.
CAF Conclude Inspection of Stadiums in Kenya
In a post on his X (Twitter) handle, Hussein Mohammed confirmed that a CAF delegation, headed by the body’s security lead Dr Christian Emeruwa and infrastructure chief Ms Stephanie Totokra, had wrapped up their assessment tour of key venues including Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, Kasarani Stadium and Police Sacco Stadium.
He explained that the exercise, conducted alongside FKF and Local Organising Committee officials, focused heavily on evaluating safety measures, security standards and overall facility preparedness ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Hussein Mohammed added that the inspection underscores both FKF’s and the government’s determination to upgrade and modernise football facilities, not only to meet continental requirements for the tournament but also to leave a lasting legacy for the development of the sport in Kenya beyond 2027.
“CAF officials, led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, head of security and Ms. Stephanie Totokra in charge of infrastructure, have concluded a 2 days inspection at the Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, Kasarani Stadium and Police Sacco stadiums together with FKF and LOC representatives, prioritising safety, security, and infrastructure readiness for AFCON 2027,” the tweet read.
“The inspections demonstrate FKF and the government's commitment to strengthening football infrastructure, positioning Kenya for success during AFCON 2027 and beyond.”

Meanwhile, the flagship Talanta Sports City, which President William Ruto recently announced will be renamed the Raila Odinga International Stadium, is now over 85% complete and entering its final phase of interior installations.
Meanwhile, the Kasarani Stadium was officially closed to begin intensive Phase II upgrades, including a complete overhaul of the playing surface to meet international standards.
The Nyayo National Stadium is also set for immediate closure following the conclusion of the World Rugby Sevens Division II tournament this weekend to allow for the installation of a new spectator canopy and media centre.
