Brentford vs Arsenal: Title race open up for Man City as Gunners held to a draw by the Bees
The Gunners faced a difficult Brentford side that have been in form since the turn of the year, having won back-to-back games before the clash.
Mikel Arteta’s men needed a win to get back to six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after seeing Manchester City defeat Fulham 3-0 on Wednesday night.
However, Arsenal failed to pass the test as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford at the G-Tech Stadium
As it happened
Keith Andrews makes just one change to the side that beat Newcastle at the weekend. Yehor Yarmoliuk comes in for Jordan Henderson.
Four changes to the Arsenal side beat Sunderland 4-0. Cristhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres came into the starting line-up.
Arsenal struggled to get the game going in the first half, with no decent attack made by the league leaders going into the break.
Arsenal took the lead early in the second half after Noni Madueke headed in a cross from Hicapae to give the Gunners an advantage.
However, Brentford got back into the game with the equaliser, with the goal coming from a throwing from Michael Kayode, which Sepp van den Berg won the flick on and there is Keane Lewis-Potter to head in at the far post.
After conceding the equaliser, the Gunners performance dropped, but they were able to hold on and settle for a 1-1 draw against Brentford.
The draw means that Arsenal dropped two points in the title race and go four points clear of Man City, giving the Citizen’s hope of catching Arteta’s team.
