Boniface outshines Orban but Gent and Union St. Gilloise share spoils
Union St. Gilloise continue to be a hard nut for KAA Gent to crack after a share of the spoils on Saturday evening.
Gent rescued a point late on to deny the visitors Union G with Nigerian forwards Gift Orban and Victor Boniface in action in the 1-1 draw at the Ghelamco Arena.
Orban had stolen the headlines heading into the game between the two but it was his compatriot Boniface who shone brighter on the night.
Boniface steals show
20-year-old Orban was the deserved talking point as Gent welcomed Boniface and Union G at home in the Jupiler.
He had scored and assisted 13 goals in his last six outings before the game against his compatriot and his Europa League side.
However, it was the 22-year-old visitor who took the shine off his host after a creative outing for his club, St. Gilloise.
He created one chance and made a key pass which led to the opener scored by fellow African Jean Thierry Lazare in the opening minute of the game.
He went on to play for 65 minutes and attempted one shot while Orban also created one chance, and made one key pass but was expertly caged in the 83 minutes he played.
What the result means
Both teams extend their unbeaten runs to seven matches in all competitions but have to share the spoils in this one.
