Bodo/Glimt vs Manchester City: Pep suffers Manchester derby hangover as minnows stun Cityzens
Manchester City handed Bodo/Glimt their first win of the 2025/26 Champions League season as the Norwegian side romped to an impressive 3-1 victory over Pep Guardiola's 10 men.
Ballon d'Or winner Rodri saw red midway through the second half to make it two losses in their last two games, and no wins in their last five Premier League or Champions League games for Manchester City.
Bodo/Glimt vs Man City: How it happened
Manchester City’s trip to Norway carried clear danger, coming on an artificial pitch in freezing conditions and just days after their derby defeat to Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s side started on the front foot and should have led early on, but Max Alleyne somehow headed over from six yards after being left unmarked from Phil Foden’s corner.
That miss proved costly as Bodø/Glimt struck against the run of play, with Ole Didrik Blomberg delivering a pinpoint cross for Kasper Høgh to power home at the far post.
City were visibly rattled and fell further behind moments later, as Blomberg again found space to square for Høgh, who calmly finished to double the hosts’ lead. The visitors’ frustration deepened before half-time when Erling Haaland failed to capitalise on a loose ball in the box, missing a clear chance to reduce the deficit.
Guardiola opted against changes at the interval, and City were fortunate not to concede a third immediately, with Håkon Evjen’s goal ruled out for offside.
That reprieve was short-lived, as Jens Petter Hauge produced a stunning solo strike to make it 3–0. Rayan Cherki briefly revived City’s hopes with a quick response, but Rodri’s red card moments later all but ended their comeback.
Glimt comfortably saw out the game to boost their play-off hopes, while City now face the prospect of finishing outside the top eight.
