Atalanta CEO dismisses transfer rumour linking Lookman with a move away from the club
These remarks come as transfer talk continues to swirl around Lookman. After drawing interest from Inter during the summer, recent reports have linked him with Atletico Madrid and Serie A rivals Napoli.
However, Percassi's public statements strongly suggest that Atalanta has no intention of letting the forward go mid-season.
By confirming that Raspadori's signing was independent of any sales, the CEO has made it clear that Lookman remains a key part of the club's strategy moving forward.
Lookman staying at Atalanta
Speaking ahead of Atalanta's Champions League fixture against Union SG, Percassi addressed the persistent rumors about Lookman's potential departure during the upcoming January transfer window.
When questioned about the possibility of Lookman leaving, Percassi firmly stated, "Lookman leaving in January? Raspadori's arrival didn’t mean he'd leave," as reported by FC Inter1908.
He emphasized that the signing of Giacomo Raspadori was a strategic opportunity for the club and not a move intended to facilitate the sale of an existing first-team player.
"Raspadori’s arrival was a transfer opportunity that didn’t require the sale of a player," Percassi clarified.
The CEO underscored Lookman's value to the squad, highlighting his role in the team's plans for the season.
"We’re happy that Giacomo chose Atalanta; he’s an important player, like Ademola, who returns to the starting lineup tonight," he remarked, directly affirming Lookman's significance.
Percassi also commented on the team's overall objectives, stating, "We need to get back to performing well, in short...," indicating a focus on improving on-field consistency.
