Arsenal vs Kairat: Gunners set new Champions League record following victory over Kazakhstan side
The Gunners head into the game on the back of a 3-2 loss at home to Manchester United in the Premier League, which was their first home defeat this season.
The EPL leaders needed a quick response after the defeat and got it in the Champions League, having defeated Kairat 3-2.
Following the victory, Arsenal set a new record by being the first team to win all eight games in the new UCL league format.
As it happened
Mikel Arteta heavily rotated his starting XI, as he took advantage of Arsenal's strong position in the group.
There was also a big positive for the Gunners as Kai Havertz made his first start of the season after his injury troubles.
Arteta had promised a different Arsenal over the next four months, and the Gunners immediately delivered, opening the scoring just one minute into the game.
A brilliant through pass from Havertz into the path of Victor Gyokeres and he finished brilliantly, beating the goalkeeper.
However, six minutes later, Arsenal gifted Kairat a penalty after Riccardo Calafiori's foul on Jorginho. The forward brilliantly slotted the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga into the net.
As the game went on, Arteta’s men scored two goals courtesy of Havertz and Martinelli, going into the halftime break with a two-goal cushion.
In the second half, Arsenal's intensity dropped, failing to add to their first-half goals. Kairat scored in injury time to make it 3-2.
Just immediately after Kairat scored, the referee blew the final whistle, with the Gunners securing a perfect record in the UCL league format.
