The Association Africaine de Futsal (AAF) has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2026, outlining a series of high-profile tournaments and development initiatives aimed at accelerating the growth of futsal across Africa.
AAF Publicity Secretary Mr Edewor Oputa confirmed that the year will begin with the AAF Under-17 Futsal International Tournament in Kenya.
What Oputa said
“We are thrilled to kick off the year with our Under-17 Futsal International Tournament in Kenya, which will feature some of the best young talent from across the continent,” Oputa said.
Beyond youth competitions, the AAF plans to expand Africa’s presence on the global stage through participation in major international multi-sport events.
Futsal will feature as a side event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as well as the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal later in the year.
“This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, We are also preparing to take part in the Commonwealth Games and host our inaugural African Futsal Inter School Tournament,” he added.
The African Futsal Inter School Tournament, scheduled for August in Togo, will be the first competition of its kind under the AAF banner, reinforcing the association’s commitment to grassroots development.
A key pillar of the AAF’s strategy is the integration of futsal into schools, tertiary institutions, and football clubs throughout the continent.
According to Oputa, this long-term approach is essential to building a sustainable futsal ecosystem.
“We are committed to developing futsal in primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions and football clubs throughout Africa,” he said.
Adding global appeal to the 2026 calendar, Brazilian futsal legend Falcao is set to tour three African countries in March.
The tour will include coaching clinics, exhibitions, and mentorship sessions for young players and coaches.
“Falcao’s visit will inspire the next generation of futsal stars across Africa,” Oputa noted.
