A devastating accident has claimed the lives of 21 members of the Kano State sports contingent returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the vehicle carrying about 35 passengers, mainly athletes and officials, fell off a bridge in Dakstalle town, Kura Local Government Area, around 9 am.

What happened

According to Ado Salisu, one of the contingent members, the team was traveling in a convoy of eight vehicles, with the ill-fated bus being the last.

"The bus was the last bus, and it fell off a bridge, resulting in a devastating crash," Salisu told Kano based medium SolaceBase.

Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Kura General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Efforts are underway to transfer the injured contingents to Murtala Specialist Hospital in Kano for further treatment.
