The former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder missed the matchday squad for Gallants.

Kenyan international Sven Yidah sat out of Marumo Gallants' clash against Al Akdar as they won 4-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup Group A opener played at the Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa.

The former Nairobi City Stars midfielder was not named in the 20-man match-day squad as his side hammered the Algerian outfit.

Gallants pushed for an early goal, and it finally came in the fifth minute through Lesiba Nku after Akhdar's goalkeeper Miftah Al Taeb spilled the ball in his path.

Ranga Chivaviro doubled his side's lead in the 21st minute after Katlego Otladisa intercepted a poor goal-kick by Al Taeb, and the former Cape Town All Stars ace made no mistake in placing the ball into the back of the net.

Marumo Gallants, who are at the bottom of the South Africa Premier Soccer League standings with 18 points, were leading 2-0 during the half-time break.

The Limpopo-based side continued to dominate the match after the restart, and they managed to add on to their lead through Chivaviro in the 57th minute.

The lanky forward hit the back of the net with a decent finish to make it 3-0 to Marumo Gallants with the Al Akhdar defense left exposed.

Al Akhdar pushed forward, and they managed to pull one back through Akram Alzawi to make it 3-1 with ten minutes left on the clock.

However, the goal proved to be a mere consolation as Joseph Malongoane sealed Marumo Gallants' 4-1 win over Al Akdar in the closing stages after being set up by second-half substitute Sibusiso Sibeko.

Gallants got their group stage campaign up and running, and will next travel to DR Congo to face Saint Eloi Lupopo, the home of former AFC Leopards midfielder Allan Kateregga.

Yidah joined Marumo Gallants in August 2022 from FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars and made his South African Premier Soccer League debut in a 2-2 draw against Royal AM.
