The Reds recorded their biggest win against their rivals in a historic Premier League clash.
After a 7-0 drubbing by Liverpool at Anfield, Manchester United, and their fans have been mocked by rival soccer supporters.
The Red Devils suffered a humiliating defeat even though they have been on an upward trajectory. Before the loss at the hands of the Reds, United had lifted the Carabao Cup, and advanced both in the FA Cup and in the Europa League after wins over West Ham United and Barcelona, respectively.
Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah, each with a brace, coupled with a goal from Roberto Firmino, Liverpool in humbling United.
Anfield Riot
United came into the game on an 11-game unbeaten run but were helpless as Jurgen Klopp’s charges ran riot at Anfield.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, with good chances, failed to put United in front before Liverpool pinned them down consistently and produced an astonishing league result on their own turf.
The win is not only a morale-boosting outcome for Liverpool, but it also kept their dream of finishing in the top four very much alive.
The Merseyside outfit moved up to fifth place, above Newcastle United, and three points below Tottenham Hotspur.
The loss is a big setback in United’s push to win the Premier League title. Additionally, their wait for a win at Anfield – that has stretched to seven years - continues.
Salah's Record
Apart from helping the Reds register the win, Salah made history with his two goals. He became the first Liverpool player to score in six consecutive appearances in all competitions against United.
The Egyptian also scored his 128th and 129th goals in the Premier League for Liverpool, overtaking Robbie Fowler as the club's leading goalscorer in the competition's history.
