The Cranes are on the brink of elimination and must beat Niger next Thursday to stand any chance of progressing to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2019.

Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic has revealed that Ugandans might have to resurrect the late Magid Musisi to get goals for the team.

While speaking to the media after the Cranes drew 1-1 with SC Villa at Wankulukuku on Wednesday, Micho was asked about the team’s struggles in front of goal.

“The solution, to resurrect Magid Musisi, maybe,” Micho responded.

“But, that solution does not exist. We are having new people that could replace Magid Musisi, David Obua, Massa Geoffrey and others,” he added.

The Cranes are on the brink of elimination and must beat Niger next Thursday to stand any chance of progressing to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2019.

With just two goals to show after five games of the qualifiers, the Cranes’ problems start and end with production, or lack of, in the final third of the pitch.

Magid Musisi passed away on December 13, 2005, but his legacy remains firm in Ugandan football.

He is arguably the best football to have come out of Uganda and scored 45 goals for the Cranes.

“As you know, Bayo Fahad, Okwi Emmanuel, Miya Faruku are sources of goals in recent years,” Micho said.

But of the three players mentioned by the tactician, none has come close to finding the back of the net in the ongoing qualifiers.

Milton Karisa and Rogers Mato are the two players who have scored for the Cranes in this campaign, and it remains to be seen if the team will get goals against Niger next Thursday to keep their qualification dream alive.

“Unfortunately, we shall not have with us Emmanuel Okwi due to his sickness and not being able to give the best, so we have agreed he will keep aside.

“We need to find the sources in Bayo, Miya, Basangwa and other players that are supposed to be sources of our goals.”

Uganda must beat Niger and hope that Tanzania fails to get a result against Algeria in the other Group F fixture.
