A former Chelsea defender lamented the club's failure to sign Victor Osimhen.
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas believes that the Blues are lacking a profile like Victor Osimhen's to truly push for titles like the Premier League and UCL.
The 48-year-old, who won two EPL titles with Chelsea—one of which earned him a PFA Team of the Season slot (2005/06)—joined ex-Blues like Mikel Obi in urging the club to sign the Nigerian striker in the past two summer transfer windows.
Chelsea passed on the opportunity, opting for younger, cheaper options on Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, allowing Osimhen to join Galatasaray. Speaking recently, Gallas stressed that Osimhen would have increased the potential of his former club.
What Gallas said
The former France international’s comments were relayed by Chelsea News. With the Blues currently 4th, eight points behind league leaders Arsenal, and only recently ending a four-game winless run, Gallas expressed the need for a player of Osimhen's quality.
“To be honest, Chelsea, at the moment, I think they are missing one experienced player, and a player who can put Chelsea really on top for me is Victor Osimhen. I wanted to see him sign for Chelsea. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” Gallas said.
Osimhen is currently excelling at Galatasaray, with six goals in nine starts so far this season, after leading the Cim-Bom to the league title last campaign. Chelsea's two strikers combine for only four in the Premier League this season, with all contributions coming from Pedro. Delap has yet to score a Premier League goal for the Blues.
