Marie-Louise Eta is set to be the first female coach in the dugouts of a Bundesliga game after Union Berlin fired Urs Fischer.

For the first time in Bundesliga history, a female coach will be in the dugouts during a match as Union Berlin makes new hires after firing Urs Fischer.

The German capital club made changes in their coaching department after an abysmal season so far, and it included former Werder Bremen midfielder Marie-Louise Eta.

What happened

Fischer led Union Berlin to a historic campaign last season, as they finished third in the Bundesliga and booked a Champions League ticket.

This season, however, has gone awry, as they are winless in their last 14 games, losing 13 of them. Despite making a statement to back him a few days ago, the club hierarchy has now opted to fire him.

The club have now named their U-19 coach Marco Grote as interim boss, and Grote will assume the role with Marie-Louise Eta, who is his assistant.

We will first see the pair at the helm after the international break, when Union Berlin face Nuremberg on November 19.

Meanwhile, Napoli have fired head coach Rudi Garcia after just four months in charge following a poor start to the season for the reigning Italian champions.

Walter Mazzarri has been appointed to help salvage the rest of the season, mostly due to his availability and familiarity with the club, having previously managed Napoli from 2009 to 2013.

Ultimately, Rudi Garcia was fired because of the poor results but there are a few more reasons that contributed to said results including his seemingly fractured relationship with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and other Napoli stars.
